New Story

Between 1953 and 1961 Marie Louise Killick fought and won a long and bitter a battle with Pye Radio over their infringement of her 1945 patent for the truncated sapphire stylus used in sound reproduction of 78 rpm.

patent lawyers and patent agents marks its 40th anniversary this year. In the annals of invention it is virtually unprecedented, yet its beginnings, as so often happens, were somewhat inconspicuous.

Story 14 James Lulham of Telscombe. The Last Man to be Hanged for Sheep Stealing?
An interview with author
Audrey Farley.

The picturesque Sussex Village of Telscombe, tucked in a hollow in the South Downs, would seem like one of the last places to find the final resting place of the last man to be hanged for sheep stealing. As we follow the story of the two brothers who committed this crime in 1819, the trail leads us through newspaper reports, parish records, census records and other sources, to the Assizes Court, the Gallows, Prison Hulks and to Botany Bay. And what became of the families they left behind? The lives of these two men and their families were spent in and around the Sussex villages and towns of Falmer, Telscombe, Rottingdean, Southwick, Horsham, Botolphs and Newhaven.

peopletalk will be bringing you sound-seeing-tours of places in the south of England. One such tour is about Rottingdean on the South coast of England, the home village of Rudyard Kipling, who wrote the famous children's story, Jungle Book. 'The Elms', Rudyard Kipling's House, can be seen from across the village pond, which, because it has not changed much over the passing years, you can have the same great view from this vantage point of The Elms, as the famous author had almost a hundred years ago but more about Rudyard Kipling and the house later.
